Bonnie J. Kaplan, PhD, Professor shares her interest in the emerging field of nutrition in relation to brain metabolism and mental health.

This email is going to a number of people around the world who have shown interest in the emerging field of nutrition in relation to brain metabolism and mental health.  Over the years I have maintained a mailing list and sent out occasional summaries. Recently I have ‘reconstituted’ my list, as I have fully changed to the university email system…. I decided it was time to send out an update.

Many papers have come out in the last month that may interest you:
The International Society of Nutritional Psychiatry Research (ISNPR) was formed about 2 years ago to bring together those of us doing research on nutrition and mental health.

Our website is ISNPR.org (check it out for tons of studies). Click on Lancet Psychiatryto view our position statement, published this month by Lancet Psychiatry.

I suppose this will seem like blatant self-promotion, but my colleagues and I have just published an article explaining how inflammatory processes, oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, and nutrition are all tied together in ways that are important for mental health. This article was published by Clinical Psychological Science, and is also attached.

For those of you who would rather ‘watch’ than read, you may want to take a look at Julia Rucklidge’s excellent 17-minute TEDx talk:
